FARM OPPORTUNITIES

Internships:
Are you looking to learn more about agriculture, land care, animal husbandry, gardening and the labor-intensive work a farm requires? Are you looking to learn more trade skills such as carpentry, welding, mechanics, and electrical and plumbing? Are you looking to learn butchering skills?
Legacy Farm & Market interns live nearby and work on the farm to experiencing many facets of our diverse farm operation. For example, interns will attend one farmer’s market or delivery per month at a minimum. This may involve getting up before the sun (like at 4 AM for example!) after a full day of market prep and daily chores. Other tasks include taking care of the animals, milking cattle, weeding and gardening, mowing, fencing, special projects and various pasture work.
The rhythm of the farm varies with every season. From April through October, the days are very long and hot. This is not a job for someone who is uncomfortable around hard work and the heat!
We ask that interns make at least a one year commitment to our farm. Only by seeing the changes of the seasons and the different rhythms and experiences that each new season brings, will an intern get a sense of what farming is truly about and the seasonal demands. We are looking for people who are serious about agriculture, growing/raising nutrient dense food, or farming or chef as a career path. This commitment is education-filled and is the equivalent to a year at a trade school or college. Please keep this in mind when deciding to apply. It is important for interns to commit for an entire year. Due to the extensive training and energy we give to our interns, short term internships are not currently available.
If you are interested in spending a year at Legacy Farm & Market learning how to farm and care for cattle, poultry and pork, please email Leslie@legacyfarmandmarket.com or call, 396.795.7773 for our intern application. Internships are always available. If LFAM is interested in having you visit for an interview, we will contact you. Our interns are able to move into an apprenticeship in a paid employment position once the internship period has concluded.
